Canadians drop a pair to back-to-back big crowds

Posted in July 2nd, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Baseball News, Between The Innings, Newswire, North of the Border, Post-Game Reports, Vancouver Canadians

Ah yes, the curse of the crowd as it has been known to C’s fans, that whenever a game has a big crowd, the Canadians almost always lose.
Such was the case Tuesday and Wednesday, as neither Joselito Adames or Ricardo Penalba could do much against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, of NWL dominance.
The #1 and #2 [...]

Offense!

by Jeremy in 2009, Baseball News, Between The Innings, Newswire, North of the Border, Post-Game Reports, Vancouver Canadians

One night after losing 5-0 to the dreaded Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, the boys of summer came back and shellacked the opposition, 14-0.  No typo.
So how big of a beating was that?  Well to give you an example of how unlikely it was, the biggest margin of defeat last year was 8 runs, in the back half [...]

25/06/09: Up the Standings they climb: C’s defeat Dust Devils

Posted in June 26th, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Baseball News, Between The Innings, Newswire, North of the Border, Post-Game Reports, Vancouver Canadians

Heading into Thursday night’s contest with Vancouver, you would have to think the Tri-City Dust Devils were as confident as ever, being 5-0.  Vancouver had the same feeling, with a record of 2-3, because a pair of new draft picks made their debuts Thursday night, including 6th rounder Ryan Ortiz, behind the plate.
Visiting Lineup:
CF Tyreace [...]

Canadians fall back to .500 with loss to Dust Bunnies

Posted in June 23rd, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Baseball News, Between The Innings, Newswire, North of the Border, Post-Game Reports, Roster changes, Vancouver Canadians

Monday the 22nd:
After a tight victory to even up their season opening series against Everett, the Vancouver Canadians looked to build on their momentum gained Sunday, and defeat the Aquasox Monday night in front of a somewhat smaller crowd.
One ‘big’ lineup change occurred, in that Jose Crisostomo was inserted into RF instead of Conner Crumbliss [...]

C’s victory leads to .500 record

Posted in June 21st, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Around The Minors, Baseball News, Between The Innings, In The System, Newswire, North of the Border, Oakland Athletics, Post-Game Reports, Vancouver Canadians

It may have taken two games, but the Vancouver Canadians are back in the win column, and if you go back to last season, they have won 6 of their last 8 games in total.
Last night’s offence was driven by Rashun Dixon, who accounted for the only run-scoring hit (a solo HR), and today was [...]

Opening Series Preview

Posted in June 20th, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Around The Minors, Baseball News, Between The Innings, History, Newswire, North of the Border, Oakland Athletics, Vancouver Canadians

Crowd to be a factor:
For the second time in three seasons, the Vancouver Canadians have a sellout for Opening Day, and with clouds expected to clear in the next three or so hours, it will be a great night for Canadians baseball.
The last time the season opener was soldout was in 2007.
Most of these players [...]

Opening Day Roster set

Posted in June 17th, 2009
by Jeremy in 2009, Around The Minors, Baseball News, Between The Innings, Draft, In The System, Newswire, North of the Border, Oakland Athletics, Roster changes, Vancouver Canadians

I didn’t think it would come out three days before Opening Day, so expected to have more time on my hands in advance of Saturday, so the Top 5 list will be a ‘recap 5 list’, that will come out later this week in one post.
The new roster is the one that will be used [...]
