rob_gilliam1.jpgWhat is it with the Oakland A’s and UNC Greensboro?  First it was Pat Currin and Jermaine Mitchell in 2006, then Lee Land in 2007.  Now it’s a man by the name of Rob Gilliam, an RHP out of the North Carolina school.

He was 4-6 with a 5.76 ERA this year, picking up four saves in the process, as he was a starter/closer.

Gilliam’s ERA certainly jumps out, but he is a strikeout pitcher who averaged well over a strikeout per inning.

He held batters to a .224 average, so that’s a positive, but I’m not getting the pick at Round 7.

I think in the 10th to 15th rounds he would’ve been good, but I’ll give the A’s the benefit of the doubt.

He could end up being a steal for all I know, I’ve never seen him pitch.

I guess he signs.
