The Canadians are in Eugene right now, and are one win away from taking just their second series of the 2008 NWL season. The Canadians record stands at 11-20, good enough for the worst record in the NWL. They are, however, just five games back of first-place Salem-Keizer.
Thursday night, Vancouver won 10-5, before falling 4-3 to Eugene Friday.
Thursday, the hitting was the real story, with the offence picking up 12 hits and 10 runs, to go along with 9 walks.
One offensive standout, Marcos Luis who, with a 2-5 night raised his average to .323, after adding two RBI to his season total, as well as a double.
Mike Lissman, a newcomer to the club, raised his BA to .219 after a 2-5 night at the dish with a double, 2 RBI, a walk and 2 runs scored.
Francisco Tirado, who has definitely improved since his 0-15 start to the season, was 2-5 with 3 runs scored, as well as a walk and RBI.
Jason Christian stole the show, going 2-3 with a run, RBI, 2 walks and K.
On the mound, Hector Garcia gave up four runs in just 1.2 innings, bringing his ERA to 4.38, before reliever Shawn Haviland took the ball and ran with it. In 3.1 innings, he gave up just a hit and a walk, striking out three. His ERA stands at an amazing 1.04.
Trey Barham hurled 2 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out two, good enough to lower his ERA to 2.19.
Kenny Smalley finished the game off, 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run off of a dinger.
10-5 win, as I mentioned.
Friday was more of a painful night, with fan favourite Ben Hornbeck taking the loss, after giving up three runs in the 6th, in his only inning of work. Mike Hart pitched a scoreless 8th, and Ronny Morla allowed an unearned run as the starter, way back in the 2nd inning. He had a good outing, throwing 5 innings on the mound, giving up three hits, the run, and striking out 5.
David Thomas was 2-4, improving his average to .321 while Dusty Napoleon had a 2-hit night, including a double and a run scored. RBI’s were from Mike Lissman, and Dante Love while the three runs were scored by Napoleon, Lissman and Christian, who had two walks and a double.
Pedro Figueroa pitches tonight, trying to secure the C’s second series win of the year.
