Good form is such a perilous thing. You hit a couple of dingers one night, the next night you think you’re The Incredible Hulk after a night on Barry Bonds’ horse steroids, and it all goes to heck.

Such is life for Jason Christian, who responded to my suggestion he’d make a good #2 hitter by pounding out two homers last night and showing he’s a pretty good #5.

Tonight? He got a little power happy and went 1-4 with three big K’s. Combined with Jeremy Barfield and a walk-happy Dusty Napoleon, the ‘meat’ of the C’s order went 1-8 with nothing batted even close to in.

In fact, only one player made it to third base, and that player, Lorenzo Macias, did so with two outs in the top of the 9th, when the game was basically already lost.

Oh, and the fact that ‘Zo (with his 0.79 BA) was even in the game comes down to Jeremy Barfield getting tossed in the 4th after being hit with a strikeout that he didn’t appreciate.

So that helps. Nicely done on the aggression counseling, Stairmaster.

Meanwhile, the Boise Hawks had scored the run they needed to beat the Canadians tonight without even registering an out. C’s starting pitcher Ryne ‘Thumb’ Tacker gave up a walk to Josh Harrison, then completely screwed up a pickoff, allowing him to get to 3rd, and then sent down a wild pitch to concede the least effort-inducing run a Hawks player will ever score.

Hawks player Rebel Ridling (which I believe is also a brand of bourbon) hit a two run homer in the wake of Barfield’s ejection in the bottom of the 4th, and the wind was well and truly sucked out of the Canadians’ sails as they stumbled, bumbled and tummy-rumbled their way to the end of the game.

On the positive side, perennial non-hitters Lorenzo Macias (1-1 with a walk), Francisco Tirado (1-3) and Julio Rivera (1-3) had much-needed decent offensive outings, and recent Kane County demotee Mike Lissman enjoyed a full start that left him with a .400 BA.

Just a pity none of it mattered. Shut out.
