Glad your kid is doing well. It's nice that ballplayers will use their position to do good for kids sometimes.

But it dosn't change anything. I'm sure Barry Bonds visits children's hospitals now and then, but he's still an undisputed asshole.

I've heard enough "you're just jealous" and "when have you ever played" BS from Kiger Nation this season to know one thing very sincerely; there's no bigger fan of Mark Kiger than Mark Kiger.

That's why he talked himself out of a spot with the A's. And it's why he's currently unemployed, while those who took his place this season go to taste life in the Majors.

Good luck to you and your kid - 'mess' notwithstanding.

I have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Kiger recently. Through a mutual friend and little league dad we were introduced. I only found this blog or mess because I wanted to know more about the professional baseball player that my 11 year old son was lucky enough to get work out with a couple times. My son is a special little guy as any dad would most likely say, but he truely is. He is a small guy that was born at 28 weeks and just over 2lbs at birth. He has lingering health problems and some challenges with learning. He also has the heart of a lion and a love for baseball. But heart isn't always enough and that is where my connection to Mark comes in. In the short time my son has been around him I have seen a HUGE improvement.... but, unlike most little league dads I'm not talking about his batting average or fielding %. His improvement has been his belief in himself, his self confidence... Mark has helped his game, but more important treated him like the winner he is. So why the story? Because people should know a little bit about the man as a person, in real life... So this whole crazy thing started when a wife defended her husband and in return he defended her... like it or not, professional or emotional isn't that what we are supposed to do?

You know what really baffles me?

"Kiger Nation"?

What is that, the heaving horde of thousands of Kiger fans that follow him around wherever he goes?

Or maybe it's his MySpace friends list?

Or, perhaps, with his Oakland signing bonus, he went out and bought an actual island nation, renaming it after himself.

Or, alternatively, maybe it's just a little sad.

Man has walked on the moon before, and I'd really like to do it too.

But you know what?

Even though it's been done before, I'm never going to do it, no matter how many times my wife posts loud angry rantings on some blog saying that I should be able to.

Get over it, Kiges. Learn a trade. You're done.
