The Oakland Athletics today announced that they’ve signed Ricky Ledee (seen left), former LA Dodger and Phildelphia Phillie (and San Francisco Giant, and New York Met, and Texas Ranger, and Cleveland Indian, and New York Yankee) to a minor league contract.
In other news of similar importance, I just took out the trash. And I like cheese. And there’s some sort of stain on my T-shirt that won’t come off.
Ledee is the very definition of ‘AAAA filler’, having racked up a .244 average over 8 seasons of part time major league ball. His best year was in 2003, where he not only hit double digits in homers (13), but he also managed a career high in at bats (255) and beat his career batting average by .003.
Oh, and he wasn’t cut and/or traded that season, which is kind of rare.
So yippee for Ledee. Now we can all look forward to 16 at bats, 4 hits, 3 K’s and a walk. Should be worth waiting up for.
Actually, when I said above that the Athletics had ‘announced’ this contract, I was incorrect. They didn’t announce it at all. Apparently he’s not worthy of a press release.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThanks for pointing out that there was no press release. Guess that is why so many sites failed to mention his signing. Looked all over for substantiation that he had been signed.
